DR. KAPELINA-THOMAS
Humanities
Dr. Kapelina-Thomas (Dr. K-T) graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. She completed her teacher training at the Institute of Education in London and taught middle and high school philosophy and ethics for three years before her immigration to the United States. During this time, she participated in an ethics program for elementary school children and was an official examiner for various levels of national ethics examinations. She completed her master’s degree in Humanities Education at University College London, where she conducted research on the benefits of studying philosophy for children, which was published in the Journal of Philosophy in Schools. She later earned her ‘Philosophy for Children’ supervisor qualification from the Society for the Advancement of Philosophical Enquiry and Reflection in Education. She has recently completed her Doctorae in Philosophy at the University of Birmingham. Her research focused on the philosophy of religion, and she is currently working on two book chapters in this area.
Dr. K-T loves the outdoors and is an enthusiastic hiker and camper. She holds a Sports Leader qualification and is a supervisor and assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh International Award scheme. She also enjoys travel, cryptic crosswords, singing in choirs, and playing the piano. She has recently taken up the accordion, for which she apologizes.
