Enrollment FAQs

Who is eligible to attend Atlanta Classical Academy?
Any student currently zoned to attend an Atlanta Public School is eligible to attend. To confirm that you reside within the APS district, please use the School Zone Locator tool found on the Atlanta Public Schools website.

Which grade levels are offered at Atlanta Classical Academy?
Atlanta Classical Academy offers kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Is there an Open House or Information Session for parents to learn more about the school?
Yes. Prospective parents, students, and members of the community are invited to join Atlanta Classical Academy administration and enrollment staff for an overview of our academic philosophy, academic plan, school life, and sports / activities, and a detailed explanation of the enrollment process. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer period. Both in-person and virtual events will be offered. Registration is required.

How old does my child need to be to apply for Kindergarten?
Students must be 5 years old by September 1, 2024 to be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year.

Does Atlanta Classical admit students who are receiving special education services?
Yes. Our Student Services department assists students with an IEP, English language learners, and those who are significantly behind grade level.

Does Atlanta Classical admit students who are English Language Learners?
Yes. Atlanta Classical will provide English as a Second Language (ESL) support, but we will not offer bi-lingual instruction.

Do current Atlanta Classical Academy students need to participate in the enrollment process each year?
No. Students who currently attend Atlanta Classical do not need to fill out any forms at this time. In the spring of each school year we ask our families to re-enroll for the following school year.

How do I enroll my student?
We encourage all parents to attend one of the Prospective Parent Enrollment Information Sessions offered before and during the enrollment period. If parents support our mission, philosophy, and practices, we invite them to take part in the enrollment process by completing a lottery application for each student applying.

Is there an application or form to submit for enrollment?
Yes. Parents should submit a lottery application anytime between January 3, 2024 through 11:59 p.m. ET on February 29, 2024 to participate in the lottery.  Click here to access the enrollment application.

By submitting the lottery application, you are indicating that you would like a seat in a certain grade; however, your student is neither obligated to attend nor guaranteed enrollment.

Is anyone given preference in the enrollment process and lottery?
Yes. The following categories of students are given priority during the lottery:

  1. Students whose parent/guardian is a member of the Board of Directors or a full-time employee at Atlanta Classical Academy
  2. Siblings of students who currently attend Atlanta Classical Academy

How does Atlanta Classical Academy define a “sibling” for enrollment purposes?
“Sibling” means a child who shares at least one common biological or legal parent whether through natural or adoptive means, including biological siblings that share parents; half siblings that share a single parent; step siblings that share a parent or parents through marriage even if the marriage was terminated by death or dissolution; children who share a parent or parents through adoption or guardianship; and foster children awaiting permanent placement. Siblings, for the purpose of Atlanta Classical Academy’s enrollment process, must reside within the Atlanta Public Schools district.

If I am applying for full-time employment at Atlanta Classical Academy, will my child be given preference in the lottery?
No. Children of prospective full-time employees will participate in the lottery without the employee preference. The availability of seats and student placement will be discussed at the time of employment.

How will I learn the results of the lottery and know if my student has been granted a seat?
Results of the lottery, and wait lists by grade, will be available in each applicant’s online SchoolMint account immediately following the lottery event. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that Atlanta Classical has the most updated contact information (phone, mailing address and email address) in the Apply APS Charter platform for notification purposes.

What happens once I am notified that my child(ren) has been granted an available seat?
All students who have been granted an available seat must complete and return registration forms with valid supporting documents by the deadline communicated by the enrollment manager, or their seat will be forfeited.

Will my student have to participate in the lottery each year?
Once officially enrolled, all Atlanta Classical students will remain enrolled for future years, subject to continued residency within the APS district, and other academic and disciplinary guidelines as stated in the Family Handbook. In the spring of each school year, parents of current students must inform the school if they plan to return for the following year.

Will the grade level wait lists for the current school year carry over into the enrollment period for the following school year?
No. Wait lists are terminated each year and do not carry over. The wait list is terminated prior to the lottery event for the following school year.

How will my twins/triplets/multiples be handled in the lottery and enrollment process?
Parents of twins, triplets, or multiples applying to the same grade will complete an application for each child. Twins, triplets or multiples applying to the same grade will receive a unique lottery number per child and will be placed during the lottery into the desired grade or wait list in individual, yet consecutive, slots.
