MRS. MADDOX
Literacy Specialist
As a speech-language pathologist, Mrs. Maddox is passionate about the intersection of language and literacy. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama
in 2004, and her Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Georgia State University in 2007. She worked for several years at The Howard School and the Atlanta Speech School, where she provided speech-language intervention for students who had struggled in a traditional educational environment due to language and literacy needs.
After working in private practice while her children were young, Mrs. Maddox re-entered the school environment in 2020. She began working with students with language disorders who had also been diagnosed with dyslexia. During this time, she discovered her passion for working with students who struggle with written language, realizing that many students she had worked with as an SLP had faced struggles in the area of literacy as well. She became certified through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, and joined the Atlanta Classical Academy faculty in 2021 as a special education teacher.
In her three years working with students with IEPs, she focused primarily on those who struggled in the area of decoding, spelling, reading comprehension, and writing. She is excited to step into the role of Literacy Specialist this year, helping students to gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
In her free time, Mrs. Maddox enjoys spending time outdoors and with her husband and four children, and watching them in their various activities.
