Congratulations to Hannah Pearl and Natalie Spangler, our National Merit Semi-Finalists! Congratulations, also, to Alex Hoefer, who received a commendation from National Merit Scholarship Program for an outstanding PSAT/NMSQT score. These are tremendous honors, and we are so thrilled to recognize these students for their achievements.
More than 1.6 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which provided the initial screening for the entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
To become a finalist in this competition, our Semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Best of luck to Hannah and Natalie throughout this process! We are so proud of you!
