As we celebrate Veterans Day 2018, we take a look back at a special story from last year’s class project to honor our Veterans. Ms. Holscher’s 2017 third graders wrote letters to family and friends as a thank you for serving our country. One such letter was written to a classmate’s great uncle, “Uncle Buck.” Uncle Buck served in the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Uncle Buck also served as secretary to Joint Chief of Staff under Colin Powell.
Sadly, Uncle Buck passed away this past winter. When the family was in Virginia for his services, the attached letter was given to them. It is a letter that Uncle Buck wrote in response to the letter he received from Ms. Holscher’s class. It appears it was returned back to them as Ms. Holscher never received it. In the words of Mindy Snider, mom of ACA student and family of Uncle Buck, “it was a sweet reminder of how wonderful it is that ACA encourages students to reach out to those who have served our country and how much they truly appreciate it.”
