Volunteer Spotlight: Cav Corps

Story by Heidi Mooney & Amy Stewart

Last year, the PTCA noticed that there were many parents, grandparents, and friends of Atlanta Classical who wanted to volunteer, but we just didn’t know how to get everyone involved. This year we are taking steps to change that!

I am Heidi Mooney, ACA’s first PTCA Volunteer Chair. I took on the challenge of figuring out who we have, what skills they possess, and where they might fit in. Over the summer, we rebranded our volunteers as The Cav Corps. I like to say that the Cav Corps is the “fuel for the school!”

Atlanta Classical Academy could not exist without a dedicated group of volunteers to help organize events, provide critical services like Lunch Bunch, Resource Room and Used Uniform Sales (as well as Lost and Found), and generally keep the school running on a daily basis. While we have a core group of PTCA chairs that play major roles at ACA, we realize that many in our community do not have significant amounts of time to commit.

This year, our PTCA will offer a larger number of small, flexible volunteer roles, including tasks that can be done after school or at home. We also have what I call “micro-volunteering” opportunities, where someone can contribute based on a specific personal interest or talent, such as making boutonnieres for our guests on Veterans Day, writing thank you notes to our Business Partners, or building sets for a play.

If you want to volunteer, but don’t know how, contact me at volunteer@atlantaclassical.org. Tell me what you like to do, and I will try to match you up with a group that needs you! If you have an uncertain schedule and find that you have a few hours of availability, you can hop on the ACA PTCA Volunteer Opportunities SignUp page and view all current openings. Bookmark the link, as it will constantly update with new options.

Let’s go, Cav Corps!
